Attorney John L. Fossum
John L. Fossum has been practicing law since 1993. He is a graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, and Macalester College. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts of Minnesota. The Eighth Circuit United States Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, The Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Mr. Fossum has significant experience in litigation both in civil and criminal court and in both state and federal courts. He has argued cases in Minnesota and federal courts of appeal, and is also experienced in drafting enforceable and understandable contracts which can help avoid litigation. John Fossum has tried more than a dozen cases to a jury in state and federal courts in Minnesota and more than 60 cases to judges. He has appeared in court in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, and more than 20 different counties in Minnesota.
In 2007 and 2008, Mr. Fossum served as a Justice Advisor for the Justice Sector Support Program in Afghanistan. He was stationed in Jalalabad, and later Kunduz, as part of the program training Afghan Police and Prosecutors to assist in standing up the Afghan criminal justice system.
